She Came, She Saw, She Rocked Us!

On May 1st, knitwear designer and author Annie Modesitt spent the day at Yarnzilla teaching 3 classes, and what a day, my friends, what a day!

To my complete surprise, Annie was amazingly funny -- I'm talking Ellen DeGeneres meets Rosie O'Donnell with a soupcon of Sarah Silverman.

One class-taker was laughing so hard that she had to set down her practice swatch and go stand in a far corner of the store to collect herself -- yes, that funny. Annie's classes were half personal anecdote and half knitting tips and tricks, and each enhanced the other.

As the shop owner, I was there in a pretty much Ryan Seacrest-like capacity -- to greet people, make sure everything ran smoothly, ring customers up, etc. -- little did I imagine that after 37 years of knitting I would pick up nuggets of information from Annie that would radically change and improve some of my knitting techniques. Annie mentioned that she gives one-on-one lessons in her home in South Orange, NJ, and what I wouldn't give to get in on a few of those. If you, Dear Reader, live in Annie's neck of the woods, you must sign up for classes with her -- she's a knitting treasure.

Kim's swatch -- combination knitting, cabling without a cable needle, and color-block knitting

Thank you for an amazing day, Annie -- come back any time!

You are so right about Annie's classes! I have never enjoyed any class as much as I enjoyed hers, she makes everything seem do-able and fun and she's so dang talented it's insane.

p.s. that swatch at the bottom looks awesome, like it should be the beginning of a funky patchwork quilt made of all kinds of knitting patterns :)
